The vows, the first dance, and the many toasts are preceded with the last highlight, the cutting of the cake. The custom of the newly wed cutting the cake together and feeding it to one another is a representation of new beginnings and the ways in which they will provide for one another.
There are plenty of options when it comes to choosing your cake. There are lemon, coconut, praline, carrot, chocolate fudge, spice cake and many more! There are also many options when it comes down to choosing the shape of your cake. The only real limit is your imagination and your budget. There are many talented bakers who can make just about anything! Gilded leaves, pleated silk, whorled seashells, grosgrain ribbon, and so on forth.

These are some things you need to keep in mind when your choosing your cake.
- Contact your baker at least three to six months in advance and interview your top choices. Ask to see their portfolio.
- Once you have a chosen a baker, fill out the contract. Make sure the contract has all the required information such as; the price (tell them your budget), method of delivery, and replacement in case of a mishap.
- If you want to save some money on the cake, use fresh flowers rather than gum-paste ones.
- A baker will work closely with you to create a cake that reflects the style of your event. They can take the inspiration from your décor, or your dress.
- You can choose different flavors for each layer (which is more costly) When you are choosing the flavor consider the weather and time of your wedding. Summer wedding….
- You can use different types of icing for your cake, most cakes are iced with either
(i) Fondant- a paste of sugar, water, and corn syrup tends to have a satiny, almost shell-like finish which is best for cakes with ornate decorations
(ii) Marzipan- a mixture of almond paste and sugar, also holds up very well and it is made from egg whites, butter and sugar.
(iii) Butter cream frosting- is light and fluffy and takes color and flavor well. This tends to melt in hot humid conditions.

Wedding Rings:
An engagement and wedding ring reflects and signifies your love and commitment to one another. Diamonds, “conflict diamonds” are the most sought after mineral and it is surrounded by controversy.
- Therefore, when you are purchasing a diamond ring you should request for a ‘certification of origin’. This certification will provide you with the background information on your diamond.
- Another idea would be to purchase a used, vintage or antique ring. Celebrity and actress, Jennifer Love Hewitt, from Ghost Whisperer received a beautiful antique engagement ring from fiancé, Ross McCall. The ring is a heirloom and has been in the family for centuries.

Venue:
When you are choosing a venue consider something that is a reflection of you and your partner. Choose something that would require diminutive decoration.
Find a venue that utilizes natural resources and helps to improve the environment. Consider a non-profit museum, or various other cultural centers. If you are looking into having an outdoor wedding, a vineyard would be a great option.
These are some the questions you should consider asking:
- What are their recycling policies and do they compost leftover food?
- Can you host the ceremony and the reception at this location?
- Where do they purchase their food, and do they support local and regional farmers?
Invitations:
Your wedding invitation sets the theme, the mood and personifies your style. But it does not necessarily have to be on paper!
- Send out evites, that can be customized to your taste, by a web designer. People can reply electronically and this cuts cost and saves trees.
- If you still want to mail out invites, choose handmade papers. There are many artisans that can create beautiful invitations through this way.
- Or use recycled papers for your invitations, response cards and thank you cards. Encourage recycling on your cards, by adding a note stating “please recycle”
Twisted Limb Paper makes wonderful handmade 100% recycled invitations:

Go for something local and take a look into papayabreadcrumb a toronto based invitation company that also uses handmade paper.

Wedding Attire:
You can look beautiful, classy, and stylish while being environmentally friendly. There are a lot of alternatives out there when you are choosing your wedding attire. For example,
- There is organic cotton, which is grown without the use of synthetic chemical fertilizers, pesticides, growth regulators, or defoliants.
- Another option is to wear your mothers wedding dress, which you can have altered to your style!
Flowers and Décor:

Here are some great ideas from Rachel Ray!
Centerpieces, backdrops, linens, are a just a few of the many things that you can employ to set the theme, and mood. However, depending on the location, you can limit the use of these items.
- Go for flowers that are in season, organically grown, and can also serve as a dual-purpose, used at the ceremony and reception.
- Stay away from balloons, they are harmful for animals!
Wedding Favors:
There are many ways to thank you guests for joining you on your special day. Often guests throw away the favors, and it is difficult to find something that can please everyone.
- You do not HAVE to do favors; you can simply make a donation to a charity close to heart.
- Guests can also be given something edible. They can be given a jar of homemade or organic jam, or homemade cookies or mini cupcakes.
Menu:
The menu is an important element of the wedding and the guests will always remember it. There are many ways to make the meal both delicious and environmentally friendly.
- When it comes to choosing a caterer, choose one that works with organic foods.
- Consider buying organic wine at wholesale, in which you will pay a corkage fee, but you will save some money!
- Utilize platter, utensils, glasses and napkins that can be used more than once. Avoid plastics!
Browsing through the internet you will come across numerous vendors that solely focus on providing their couples environmentally friendly options.

Posted by dreamerswed in FLORAL.
Flowers are an important element in a wedding. It can simply be an accessory or set the stage or create the mood for the celebration itself.
There are a few criterions to keep in mind in selecting wedding flowers.
The shape of the brides bouquet should reflect the shape of the dress. A full, elaborate ball gown with a beautiful train needs classic blooms. A lush arrangement of lily of the valley mixed with bouvardia or a lush arrangement of roses would beautifully accent a ball gown. A voluminous circle or cascade would be your best bet!
A plainer, slimmer style of gown requires less traditional blooms such as a loose arrangement of calla lilies or lavender sweet pea. If you are tall or full-figured you might opt for a fuller bouquet. If you are petite steer far from a huge cascade.

There are several cost saving tips when purchasing the floral for your wedding.
i) BUY IN SEASON- with the aid of your florist choose a flower that will be grown naturally at the time of your wedding. This alone can save you a vast sum. To ensure that you receive the best deal, get your florist to purchase the best available flowers in your color palette a few days before the big day.
ii) AVOID HOLIDAYS- In a year there are specific days in which the prices of flowers soar. Eg. Valentines Day, Mothers Day. Avoid setting your wedding day on those days!
iii) FAKE IT- Replace those expensive flowers, such as orchids or lily of the valley with something that looks very similar and inexpensive. Your bouquet will still look gorgeous and your SAVING.
iv) USE YOUR SETTING- If you plan on getting married in a backyard, or in park or a vineyard choose a time when you know the flowers and trees will have bloomed. In the case of a vineyard choose the time when the grapes are ready to be harvested.
vi) THE ILLUSION- Using a large amount of small flowers such as lily of the valley or freesia can put a dent in your budget. Therefore try substituting for larger flowers such peonies, open roses or hydrangeas. You would require only a few to make a beautiful presentation.
vii) PEARS, APPLES, LEMONS- This is more commonly seen, nowadays. You can save extensively by adding limes or lemons to an arrangement. Use berries, ivy or add elephant leaves to fill in the space and cut cost.

The theme….was

TINKERBELL!
The color palette included…greens, browns, purple and blues! The family room was transformed into a whimsical forest filled with fairies and butterflies.
The young fairy had a two tiered Tinkerbell cake and purple and green cupcakes.

There is nothing more important than having radiant looking skin on your wedding day.
What is the best way to achieve radiant looking skin?
WATER! Drink lots and lots of water!! As we are all aware, water is good for the body and the skin. It also keeps you hydrated…for those hot summer days while being photographed and videographed.
Your wedding planner will also be carrying water bottles, ready and prepared, to keep the bride and groom looking radiant and hydrated.
Having a bloating problem or fear of having one??
Eat parsley!! Just by itself or with your lunch/dinner…it helps you digest.
Zits?
A common fear amongst our brides is breakouts! Have no fear, there is always a solution!
If you see a bump emerging on your face, simply crush an aspirin and squeeze a little bit of lemon onto it and apply to the zit and leave it on. The swelling should go down in no time.
To remove the redness from zits, apply a little VISINE to the area and that should do it!.
Tired or Puffy eyes?
For tired eyes put a slice of cold potato on your eyes, and the potassium in the potato will help remove those bags.
The solution to remove puffy eyes…cucumbers!!
